How to make plaster relief artwork with tissue paper

   Materials:

   Shoebox cover

   Scissors

   Ruler or straight edge

   Paper glue

   White paint.  Indoor house paint was used in this guide but any acrylic paint will work

   Plaster

   Instant coffee powder

   White tissue paper that came with the boots.  You may need 10 to 20 sheets. Many store owners will let you have tissue paper from shoes they have sold.

   Paint brush

   Containers to mix paint

   Draw a frame on the box top by making  straight lines at an equal distance from each side. Here the width of the ruler was used.

   Twist the tissue paper to make ropes.

   In this guide most of the artwork is within the lines.

   Here the artwork is starting with an arc shape. You can do any shapes you like.

   Cut a straight edge on one of the tissue paper ropes.  Put glue on the box where you want to put your first tissue paper rope and align the cut edge to the drawn line.

   Cut the other end of the tissue paper rope and align it to the drawn line.

   Continue cutting and gluing ropes to fill in the area.

   You can put glue on another spot and wind the rope to make circles.

   Use the drawn frame as a guide. Continue to cut ropes and glue them to the box top.

   Most of the ropes were glued within the frame but there are no rules and you can have some beyond the frame and even sticking up a little.

    Mix about 1/3 of a cup of the white paint with a teaspoon of plaster.

    Coat the artwork and box top with the paint.

    Make sure you coat all the surfaces.

    Paint the sides of the cover.

    You may need more than one coat not to have streaks on the box top and sides.

    Let the paint dry.

    Mix a teaspoon of coffee powder with ¼ cup of water.

    This liquid will be used to lightly stain the ropes and give them a slight contrast to the box top

    Only paint the ropes with the coffee liquid. Do not paint the box.

    Keep the box top flat until the coffee liquid had dried completely so it won’t drip onto the box top.

    When the liquid has dried completely you artwork is ready to hang!

    You can make different designs  and hang them in groups  for a nice effect.
